Hon. Francis kofi Okesu, MCE - Krachi East Municipal Assembly, (center) - lakeside, Dambai
Communal labour is the surest way of eradicating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and keeping the surroundings clean. The sensitization and clean up exercise in the various communities in Dambai, Oti Region was led by Honourable Francis kofi Okesu, MCE - Krachi East Municipal Assembly.
The exercise is aimed at promoting safe travels on the Oti river to ensure the landing sites are cleared of filth and the communities are well cleaned.
He emphasized that cleaning our surroundings must be done rampantly to prevent negative impact in our environment.
Majority of members in the community were weeding, sweeping and desilting the gutters. Sub chiefs, workers of Ecozoil Ghana and staffs of Zoomlion Ghana were busily picking up plastic containers and rubbers dumped in and along the banks of the Oti river with military personnel providing security and support during the exercise. They shared their views on how this clean up exercise will go a long way to curtail environmental health issues in the Municipality if it is done monthly, and they appealed to the Assembly to enforce and convey the announcement of frequent clean up exercise to all neighbouring communities to engage themselves immensely. They also suggested adequate tools and materials such as cutlasses, hoes, rakes, rubbish collectors, gloves, working gears, safety boots, among others and dustbins must also be provided at vantage points throughout the community such as the market square, lakeside, lorry parks, food vendors, health centers, recreational centers and many others.
The sanitation situation in Dambai, Oti Region poses a lot of health challenges and diseases affecting residents which include Typhoid fever, Cholera and Diarrhoea. We therefore need education, support and collaboration from the Government, NGOs, Stakeholders, Investors and Business men and women across the world.
