The statistics department was established at the MMDAs as per the second schedule of the Local Governance Act ,2016 (Act 936). It is one of the newly created departments in the MMDAs. Its office is currently located at the Municipal Assembly.

It aspires to provide reliable and responsive statistical services for good governance and development.
Mission
To harness, produce and manage quality local level statistics based on national standards using competent staff for evidence -based decision making in support of local and national development.
Activities or objectives of the department is to:
Collect, compile, analyse, publish and disseminate demographic, health and economic data on the district.
Undertake monthly market readings on selected goods and services from designated market centres in the District and submit returns to the respective Regional Office of the Ghana Statistical Service for the computation of the following: Consumer Price Index (CPI), Producer Price Index (PPI) and Production Index (PI)
Enhance the use of statistics for evidence-based decision making
Harmonize the concepts, methods, and classifications used in production of statistics at all levels
Systematize the collation of administrative data across sectors and geographical units
Reinforce the coordination of statistics generation, compilation, analysis, storage, archiving and dissemination across Municipality.
Strengthen the capacity of statistical staff at the district levels
Engender statistical literacy among stakeholders
Maximize revenue generation and utilization
Respond to data requests by clients or the general public
Actively Participate in any national censuses or surveys in the Municipality.
