GREEN GHANA DAY
On June 7, 2024, Krachi East Municipality in the Oti Region celebrated Green Ghana Day, an annual event focused on environmental restoration through tree planting.
This year’s theme, planning for our future, underscored the initiative’s long-term benefits. The Krachi East Municipal Assembly organized the event, attracting significant participation from local dignitaries, students, and community members.
Key figures at the event included the;
Regional Minister of Oti regional, the regional coordinating director, the municipal Agric director along with various heads of department, and media personnel. Educational institutions such as Kwame Akara M/A primary school also played a crucial role, emphasizing youth engagement in environmental activities.
The day began with a ceremonial kick-off where speakers highlighted the importance of tree planting for combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing local ecosystems. Participants then planted hundreds of saplings, contributing to environmental sustainability and community cohesion. This activity hand not only helped reduce carbon emissions and soil erosion but also provided educational opportunities and promoted the importance of green spaces for public health.
Green Ghana Day has far-reaching implications. Environmentally, it supports climate change mitigation, biodiversity, and water cycle regulation. Economically, it has faster sustainable livelihoods and can boost tourism. Socially, it encourages community engagement, improves health and well-being, and educates future generations about environmental stewardship. For Ghana, increased forest cover supports economic growth, enhances climate resilience and strengthens the country’s global environmental reputation.
Acknowledgement goes to the Regional Minister, the Regional Coordinating Director, The Municipal Agric Director, local department heads, and the media for making the event successful.
Special thanks also to the schools for their active participation. Green Ghana Day 2024 in Krachi East Municipality was a testament to the power of collective action in fostering a sustainable future for Ghana and the planet.
