ELECTION OF THE HON.PRESIDING MEMBER OF KRACHI EAST MUNICPAL ASSEMBLY
Krachi East Municipal Assembly on the 14th April,2022 elected its Hon. Presiding Member which was in the person of Hon. Emmanuel Ladzi.
Hon. Ladzi was the incumbent and he was contested by Hon. Moses Kwame Chamba. Hon Ladzi is the current Assembly Member for Okanease and Hon. Chamba a government Appointee.
The event started with nominations and approval of the candidates. Hon. Chamba and Hon. Ladzi were the only candidates that were nominated. The two were successfully approved by their colleagues.
Each candidate was given the opportunity to convince the house by the Electoral Commission officials. They both took turns to tell the house what they were capable of.
The EC official spelt out some of the rules to the house and one of the relevant ones was that, for a candidate to be declared winner he needs two-thirds of the total votes casted.
The Hon. Assembly Members in Krachi East are 30, however 28 of them were present for the voting. At the end of the voting, Hon. Ladzi had 20 of the total votes casted and Hon. Chamba had 8. The winner needed nineteen (19) of the total votes casted to be declared winner. However, Hon. Ladzi had more than the two-thirds needed (20) hence was peacefully declared winner by the EC official.
He was sworn in by the Judge of the Dambai Magistrate Court. He thanked the Hon. Assembly Members for his re-election and promised to build upon his previous achievements. He added that with their support and that of the Heads of Departments and stakeholders they will build a very attractive Municipality.
